Day 01: DEPARTURE FLIGHT
Excel Airways from Gatwick (South Terminal)
overnight flight to Delhi.
Day 02: DELHI
On arrival you will be welcomed by your driver and guide and transferred to
the Imperial Hotel.
Day 03: DELHI
Today there will be a half-day tour of New Delhi. Designed and built by the
British in the 1920's, it is a city of wide boulevards, impressive government
buildings, green parks and gardens. You will visit two monuments from Delhi's
past – Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar – then return to your hotel
via the ceremonial avenue, Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate and Parliament
House.
Day 04: AGRA
Start the day with a cycle rickshaw ride through Old Delhi. Here you will visit
the Red Fort, the most opulent Fort and Palace of the Moghul Empire built in
red sandstone. Also visit Raj Ghat, the memorial site of the Mahatma Gandhi;
Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India; and Chandni Chowk, the bustling and
colourful market of the old city. In the afternoon, drive to Agra (200 km/41/2
hours) and check in to The Oberoi Amarvilás.
Day 05: AGRA
In the morning visit Agra Fort before continuing to the magnificent Taj Mahal,
an eternal monument to the enduring love of the Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife
Mumtaz. The afternoon is at leisure. You may like to take an optional excursion
to the tranquil Bharatpur Sanctuary (65 km from Agra), teeming with exotic birdlife
(payable locally).
Day 06: JAIPUR
After breakfast, drive to Jaipur (235 km/5 hours), visiting the deserted city
of Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar, en route. On arrival in Jaipur, check
in to The Oberoi Rajvilás.
Day 07: JAIPUR
After breakfast, visit Amber Fort, a marvellous example of Rajput architecture
and an impressive site with its terraces and ramparts which are reflected in
the Maota Lake below. Ride an elephant up the hill to the fort, true to the
style of the Maharajas of days gone by. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour
of Jaipur including the City Palace Museum, resplendent with its collection
of royal robes, carpets and armoury. Also visit the Jantar Mantar Observatory,
built in 1726. Finally there will be a photo stop at the lovely Hawa Mahal (Palace
of Winds) – a five-storey pyramidal façade of overhanging windows
with latticed screens, domes and spires.
Day 08: JAIPUR
A full day at leisure to explore this vibrant city.
Day 09:RANTHAMBORE
Drive to Ranthambore (165 km/4 hours) and check in to The Oberoi Vanyavilás.
In the afternoon there will be a game drive* in Ranthambore National Park. The
Park encompasses an area of more than 400 square km and is dotted with a number
of water holes and lakes fed by several rivers. The park takes its name from
the 10th century fortress, which looms above the forest, making Ranthambore
a very unusual area where a natural present meets an historic past.
Day 10:RANTHAMBORE
A busy day of wildlife spotting. Early morning and evening game drives in Ranthambore
National Park, with time in the afternoon to relax. Ranthambore is home to the
increasingly elusive Indian tiger. Other game includes chitals, nilgais, jackals,
panthers, jungle cats and wildfowl.
Day 11:DELHI
Drive to Jaipur airport and connect with a short flight to Delhi. Transfer to
the Imperial Hotel.
Day 12: ANANDA IN THE HIMALAYAS
After breakfast, transfer to the railway station and board the Shatabdi Express
to Haridwar (41/2 hours). On arrival, drive to Ananda In The Himalayas (40 km/1
hour).
Day 13-14: ANANDA IN THE HIMALAYAS
2 full days to enjoy the spectacular scenery of this area along with a range
of activities and excursions available from the hotel. Of course, you should
also take advantage of the array of relaxing and therapeutic spa treatments
available at Ananda Spa – rejuvenation for the mind, body and soul!
Day 15: DELHI
Transfer to Haridwar for the Shatabdi Express to Delhi. On arrival, transfer
to the Imperial Hotel.
Day 16: RETURN
After a leisurely morning, transfer to the airport for the daylight flight to
Gatwick.
