Most Rev. William Newman, 88, Retired Auxiliary Bishop Of Baltimore

On May 20, 2017, Most Reverend William C. Newman, D.D. retired Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore; beloved son of the late Mabel C. Evan Newman and William C. Newman; devoted brother of Doris Piasecki, Evelyn Browne and the late Sr. Mary Pierre, SSND., Catherine Franck, June Ruth, Sr. Mary Dolora, SSND., and Bernadette Uhl. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Bishop Newman will lie in state at St. Mary’s Seminary and University, 5400 Roland Avenue on Sunday, May 28, from 2 to 8 p.m., where a vespers service will be held at 7 p.m. and on Monday, May 29, at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N. Charles Street from 9 to 10:30 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrate at 11 a.m. Entombment in the Cathedral crypt.

"Bishop Newman was universally loved and admired and will long be remembered for his kind demeanor and his humble and generous service to the faithful of this, his home Archdiocese, for so many years," Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori said in a statement after Newman’s passing.
